President Tinubu Lauds Wike’s “Fast-Thinking Leadership” in Abuja Road Reconstruction
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, praising his “fast-thinking leadership” for the accelerated reconstruction and completion of the Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) in Abuja. The President’s commendation came on Friday during the inauguration of the first phase of the critical road project, which stretches from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, President Tinubu described the newly completed road as a legacy of forward-thinking leadership and a testament to what Nigerians can achieve when vision meets action. “This road, named after a man of vision, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, now carries the legacy of forward-thinking leadership into the future of our capital city,” Tinubu stated. “The Arterial Road N5 represents what we can achieve when vision meets action. It reflects our commitment to delivering modern infrastructure that improves the daily lives of our people.”
The President commended Minister Wike, the entire FCT administration, residents, and stakeholders for their cooperation and commitment to the project’s speedy completion. He highlighted that with the inauguration of this road, traffic circulation around districts like Dape, Gwarinpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, and Mbora will significantly improve, while also helping to decongest gridlock around the Life Camp Junction and surrounding neighborhoods.
Earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that the contract for the Arterial Road N5 was awarded by the Federal Executive Council in September of last year (2024) and flagged off in October. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” by ensuring that compensation was paid to all affected residents, both indigenes and non-indigenes, whose properties were impacted by the construction. Wike also expressed confidence that the second phase of the road project would be commissioned before the end of 2025, extending the road further towards the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.
The newly commissioned Arterial Road N5 is a six-lane dual carriageway with an additional parking lane, effectively making it an eight-lane road designed to significantly enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow within the Federal Capital Territory.
