President Tinubu Greets Muslims at Eid-el-Fitr; Calls for National Unity and Prayers to End Security Challenges
President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to carry the lessons of sacrifice and discipline from the holy month of Ramadan into their everyday lives. In a holiday message released by the State House on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the President congratulated the faithful for successfully completing the 30-day fast.
The President noted that Nigeria is at a point where “empathy and unity” are needed more than ever. “We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan,” Tinubu said. He explained that virtues like perseverance and compassion should remain part of the Nigerian character even after the festivities are over. He specifically asked citizens to remember the less privileged during the celebrations, reminding them that true joy comes from sharing with those who have nothing.
Beyond the celebration, the President used the occasion to ask for spiritual support for the country. He urged Muslim leaders and their followers to offer “fervent prayers” for the nation’s security forces and for the total defeat of banditry and terrorism. According to the President, while the government is working hard to fix the economy, the collective prayers and “union of action” of all citizens are the secret to a brighter future.
As the two-day public holiday begins, the President wished all Nigerians a peaceful and joyful celebration, expressing hope that the “rebirth” experienced during Ramadan would lead to a new season of stability and progress for the entire country.
