President Tinubu Greenlights Establishment of Ranches in Abuja Community

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the establishment of ranches in the Paikon-Kore community within the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This decision is a significant step towards modernizing livestock farming and addressing long-standing challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly those related to farmer-herder conflicts.

The directive was confirmed by the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmud, during a meeting with a delegation from the Paikon-Kore community. Dr. Mahmud reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring food security and fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders through the implementation of modern ranching systems.

The establishment of ranches in Paikon-Kore is expected to pave the way for a more organized and sustainable approach to cattle rearing, providing a dedicated space for livestock development. This initiative is part of a broader federal government strategy to transform the agricultural landscape, reduce open grazing, and mitigate the clashes that have plagued many communities across Nigeria.

During the meeting, Dr. Mahmud acknowledged that the Paikon-Kore community has been grappling with internal disputes that have hindered the full realization of the ranching project. She appealed to the community to resolve their differences amicably, emphasizing that peace and unity are crucial for the successful implementation of the President’s vision for their area. The Minister stressed that the government’s efforts are aimed at bringing about significant benefits for all residents, urging cooperation for the overall development of the community and the FCT at large.

This move aligns with the federal government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which places a strong emphasis on agricultural revolution, aiming to boost local production and create a more secure environment for both farmers and pastoralists. The FCT administration is expected to work closely with relevant stakeholders and the community to ensure the smooth and effective establishment of these ranches.
