Police Clarify Viral Video: 89 Northern Youths in Lagos Are Verified Dangote Refinery Workers
The Lagos State Police Command has addressed public concerns following a viral video showing a large group of young men gathered in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos. The video, which circulated widely on social media, led to speculation about the identity and intentions of the individuals.
In an official statement, Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the 89 young men featured in the video are laborers recruited from Katsina State to work at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki. The recruitment was conducted by a contractor affiliated with the refinery, and the workers were verified and cleared for entry into the facility. Each individual presented valid National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were duly verified by the authorities.
The police emphasized that thorough searches were conducted, and no incriminating items were found in the possession of the workers. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic. He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Lagos State.
