Senator Adams Oshiomhole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed relief over his successful senatorial bid, stating that losing the election would have significantly increased his blood pressure. Oshiomhole made this statement during a post-inauguration and thank-you party organized in his honor by friends and well-wishers at his country home in Iyamho, Etsako, Edo State.
During his address, Oshiomhole humorously remarked that had he lost the election, his blood pressure would have risen to an alarming 360 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). He jokingly mentioned the jubilations of his opponents, suggesting that they would have seized the opportunity to celebrate their victory by metaphorically “locking his small door and breaking his small bones.” However, Oshiomhole expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support, which ensured his victory.
Reflecting on the senatorial race, Oshiomhole noted that several incumbent governors had lost their bids to become senators, emphasizing that it would have been a great disappointment for him to experience the same fate. He extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Edo North for electing him as their senator after his tenure as governor.
Oshiomhole also expressed gratitude for the people’s support in voting for President Bola Tinubu during the presidential election. He highlighted the significance of Edo-North district being the only district in Edo State where Tinubu emerged victorious. The senator-elect pledged his commitment to represent Edo North effectively and to ensure that the state benefits from the Tinubu administration.
Acknowledging the support he received during the campaign, Oshiomhole urged the people to spread the message of his gratitude to their respective wards and units. He emphasized his admiration for Tinubu’s leadership, urging the people to trust that Tinubu would transform Nigeria just as he had transformed Lagos. Oshiomhole proudly declared that in every ward of the six Local Government Areas, both Tinubu and himself emerged as winners, expressing his intent to present the election results as a testament of support for President Bola Tinubu from the people of Edo North.
In conclusion, Oshiomhole assured the people that Tinubu’s influence and leadership would surpass Lagos and make Edo State even better. He dismissed those who claimed that Edo could never be like Lagos, stating that Tinubu’s presidency would prove them wrong. Oshiomhole humorously declared that Tinubu was now the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and encouraged his constituents to embrace the positive changes that Tinubu’s leadership would bring to Edo State.
