One Fatality, Three Rescued as Unfinished Building Collapses in Lagos’ Mushin Area
On Sunday, May 18, 2025, a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Mushin area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to three others. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque.
Emergency response teams, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), promptly arrived at the scene. Rescue operations led to the successful extraction of three injured persons from the rubble, who were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Tragically, one male victim was recovered deceased during the operations. The cause of the building collapse is currently under investigation, with authorities examining potential structural deficiencies and adherence to construction regulations.
This incident adds to a series of building collapses in Lagos, highlighting ongoing concerns about construction standards and regulatory enforcement within the state.
