Ondo State Government Dispels Neglect Rumors, Affirms Functionality of Igbara-Oke General Hospital
The Ondo State Government has moved to counter recent reports of neglect at the General Hospital in Igbara-Oke, affirming that the facility is fully operational and well-equipped to serve its host community and beyond. The clarification was issued in a statement by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, who described the claims of abandonment as inaccurate.
According to Dr. Ajaka, the hospital operates with a robust staff of 138 personnel, including seven doctors, three optometrists, and a team of 27 nurses, among other healthcare professionals. He also highlighted the facility’s sustainable power solution, noting that it is powered by a solar energy system backed by an inverter to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The government’s response directly addresses a recent investigation that painted a grim picture of the hospital, alleging a shortage of staff, outdated equipment, and general dilapidation. Dr. Ajaka stressed that the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is committed to prioritizing the health and well-being of its citizens through sustained investment. He further reassured residents that pregnant women and other patients can access quality healthcare services and that efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery will continue.
While acknowledging that, like many public health institutions, the hospital has areas for improvement, the Commissioner reiterated that the facility is far from neglected. He emphasized that the government is actively engaged in ongoing reforms and partnerships to strengthen the entire secondary healthcare system in the state, ensuring that the Igbara-Oke General Hospital remains a symbol of efficient and accessible healthcare.
