Ogun Governor Abiodun Charges 550 New Amotekun Operatives to Prioritize Citizen Safety and Professionalism
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has called on 550 newly recruited operatives of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, to prioritize service, professionalism, and the safety of citizens as they commence their duties. The charge was delivered during the passing-out parade of the new recruits on Thursday, July 24, 2025, held in Sagamu.
Represented by his deputy, Governor Abiodun described the recruitment of the 550 operatives as a sustained investment in the state’s security architecture, underscoring his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives, property, and prosperity of every citizen. He emphasized that the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the collective pursuit of a safer Ogun State.
“This passing out parade is not merely ceremonial, but rather a powerful affirmation of your readiness to serve and safeguard our communities and the State at large,” Governor Abiodun told the new recruits. He urged them to work collaboratively with other security agencies, discharge their responsibilities with dignity, and prioritize the safety and security of citizens at their various beats, where they will be strategically deployed across the state for maximum coverage.
The Amotekun Corps was established to complement existing federal security agencies by leveraging community trust and local intelligence to combat crime. Governor Abiodun attributed the state’s relative peaceful atmosphere to strategic planning, sustained investment, and collaborative efforts aimed at creating an environment where the economy can thrive and residents can live without fear, in tandem with his administration’s “Building Our Future Together Agenda.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (rtd.), appreciated the state government for its transformative interventions that have significantly bolstered Amotekun’s operational capabilities. He noted that the influx of new personnel would enhance the agency’s capacity to deal with all current and potential security threats, thereby building a robust security apparatus.
This latest recruitment brings the total strength of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State to over 2,000 operatives, reinforcing the government’s resolve to ensure comprehensive security coverage across all communities. The recruits, who underwent rigorous training from July 6 to July 18, are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining law and order and fostering community-based intelligence gathering to prevent criminal activities.
