Ododo Launches Phase One of Rural Electrification, Distributes 30 Transformers to Kogi Communities

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially launched the first phase of a crucial rural electrification project with the flag-off of the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers across the state. This initiative is set to significantly improve electricity supply and drive development in 30 communities evenly spread across the three senatorial districts.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja on Monday, Governor Ododo described the event as a major step towards fulfilling his promise to empower the people and “light up communities.”

“It is with great pride and a profound sense of duty that I flag off the first phase of the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers strategically distributed across the three senatorial districts of our beloved state,” the Governor stated.

He emphasized that the project goes beyond merely supplying power, but is an essential investment in the socio-economic framework of the state. “This is not just about electricity—it is about lighting lives, powering education, driving industry, supporting healthcare, and strengthening the security of our communities,” he noted, adding that the selection of beneficiary communities was a direct response to urgent requests received via the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development.

Governor Ododo stressed that the distribution was guided by the principle of fairness and equity to ensure balanced development across Kogi East, Central, and West. He assured residents that this is only the beginning, with subsequent phases planned to reach even more underserved communities.

The Governor called on the benefiting residents to take ownership of the project by safeguarding the electrical installations against vandalism to ensure the long-term benefit of the collective. The Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, commended the Governor for his commitment to grassroots welfare, noting that the initiative will stimulate economic growth and productivity in the rural areas.
