NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel to Safeguard Anambra Governorship Election

With the Anambra State Governorship Election just over a week away, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced a massive security mobilization, deploying 10,000 personnel to the state to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral exercise.

The deployment is part of a comprehensive security strategy developed under the framework of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). The large number of personnel is specifically tasked with providing adequate security coverage across all polling units, collation centers, and critical infrastructure on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The governorship election is a high-stakes contest, and the heavy security presence is aimed at mitigating risks associated with electoral violence, ballot box snatching, and the general security challenges facing the South-East region. The NSCDC’s mandate during the poll includes protecting electoral materials and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad-hoc staff, as well as maintaining public order throughout the voting and collation processes.

This security measure complements the efforts of other security agencies involved in the election, reflecting a coordinated approach to instill confidence in voters and political actors. The goal remains to create a secure and conducive environment, enabling the election to genuinely reflect the will of the people. The NSCDC called on all officers deployed to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement, act professionally, and remain apolitical while discharging their duties.
