Nigerian governance expert and corporate executive, Funmi Ekundayo, has achieved a major global milestone by emerging as the new President of the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA). The announcement, made over the weekend, elevates Ekundayo to the leadership position of the global body that represents corporate secretaries and governance professionals across more than four continents.

Ekundayo’s election is seen as a significant win for Nigeria’s corporate governance community, underscoring the country’s growing influence in international professional leadership. She is currently the Group Managing Director of STL Capital Group and brings nearly three decades of experience spanning legal practice, financial services, and capital markets. Her extensive expertise includes a recent tenure (2023–2025) as the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), where she was the first female to hold the position in the Institute’s 57-year history.

Prior to assuming the presidency, Ekundayo had previously served the CSIA as its Honorary Treasurer and Vice President. In a statement following her elevation, she expressed commitment to the association’s goals, noting that she looks forward to working with member institutes globally to strengthen corporate governance standards, expand professional capacity-building programmes, and further position the CSIA as the leading global voice for governance professionals worldwide.
