NGF Mourns Victims of Devastating Flood in Niger State

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent flood disaster in Mokwa town, Niger State, which resulted in the loss of at least 21 lives and the destruction of over 50 homes.

In a statement released on Friday, NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, conveyed the Forum’s condolences to the affected families and the Niger State Government. He emphasized the Forum’s solidarity with the people of Niger State during this challenging time and commended the swift response by the state government and emergency agencies.

Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the flood as a stark reminder of the realities of climate change and its impact on communities. He reaffirmed the NGF’s commitment to collaborating with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to enhance disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.

The NGF called on citizens to support government efforts in mitigating the effects of climate change and to cooperate with agencies providing assistance to those in need. The Forum also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for the swift recovery of the affected communities.

This tragic event underscores the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address climate-induced disasters and to build resilient infrastructures in vulnerable regions.
