Nasarawa Government, Police Debunk Reported Abduction of Two Pupils, Warn Against Spreading Fear-Mongering False Alarms
The Nasarawa State Government and the Police Command today, Friday, November 21, 2025, moved swiftly to deny a widely circulated report claiming the abduction of two pupils from St Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in the Doma Local Government Area. Authorities confirmed the claims were entirely false, describing the incident as a case of panic that escalated into a damaging rumour.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ramhan Nansel, an unverified alert was received this morning, prompting the Commissioner of Police to immediately deploy a joint team of Police operatives and military personnel to the school premises.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers,” ASP Nansel clarified. “The proprietor of the school was also interviewed and confirmed to the operatives that the alarm raised was a false one.”
Caution Against False Alarms
The State Government, through the Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, corroborated the Police findings and called on citizens to be responsible in their consumption and dissemination of news. The government is deeply concerned that such unverified reports can sow discord and undermine the peace currently enjoyed in the state, particularly following a genuine security crisis in a neighboring state.
The PPRO, ASP Nansel, also cautioned journalists and media outlets against rushing unverified claims to press, emphasizing that the Command is committed to the safety of lives and property. He urged the public to disregard the circulating reports as mere rumours and cooperate with security agencies by providing only verified, actionable intelligence.
The area remains under close monitoring to prevent any security breaches and ensure students and teachers can continue their activities without fear.
