President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action by suspending the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Salihijo, and three Executive Directors of the Rural Electrification Agency, citing new findings from a comprehensive investigation into financial activities. The State House, through a statement from Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced the suspension on Thursday. The statement revealed allegations of fraudulent misexpenditure amounting to over N1.2 billion over the past two years, prompting Tinubu to order a wider investigation into the officials’ conduct. Consequently, Tinubu appointed a new interim management team, including Abba Aliyu as Managing Director/CEO, Ayoade Gboyega as Executive Director, Corporate Services, Umar Umar as Executive Director, Technical Services, Doris Uboh as Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund, and Olufemi Akinyelure as Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project. The President emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing the needs of Nigerians for good governance and quality service delivery.
