Military Investigators Track N45 Billion NDDC Fund Trail Linking Politically Exposed Persons to Detained Soldiers
In a dramatic twist to the ongoing military probe into an alleged plot to overthrow the Federal Government, military investigators have reportedly uncovered a massive financial trail involving N45 billion disbursed from the accounts of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The investigation, being spearheaded by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), reportedly tracked the movement of the N45 billion to the accounts of politically exposed persons and the soldiers currently detained in connection with the rumored conspiracy against President Bola Tinubu.
According to security sources, investigators are scrutinizing a series of high-value transactions, specifically a contract for a shoreline protection project awarded to a former governor in the South-South. Sources indicate that parts of the N45 billion meant for the project allegedly found their way into the accounts of some of the detained military officers.
The development has triggered significant unease and panic alarms at the NDDC headquarters, with top officials reportedly grilled by DIA investigators over the sources of the funds, the beneficiaries, and how the massive sum was utilized. This scrutiny is believed to be “part of a broader intelligence-based inquiry into the movement of public funds.”
While the Defence Headquarters has consistently denied any coup attempt insisting the 16 detained officers were arrested for “professional misconduct” and breaches of service regulations the discovery of a financial link between the agency’s accounts and the detained personnel has intensified speculation regarding the severity and scope of the underlying investigation.
The NDDC leadership, including the Managing Director, has publicly denied being arrested or detained, but the development is expected to trigger a broader audit of the commission’s financial dealings as the security agencies continue their probe.
