Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed Rabiu Kwankwaso’s presidential aspirations as a ‘mirage.’ Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), lacks the nationwide support necessary for a successful bid for the presidency, Lukman stated in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Lukman believes it would take significant time for Kwankwaso to build a strong enough national coalition to achieve his ambitions. He suggested that Kwankwaso might benefit from rejoining the APC, which could involve reconciling with the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and reestablishing relationships in Kano.
He also noted that the corruption allegations facing Ganduje in Kano are tied to his political disputes with Kwankwaso. Lukman suggested a political approach is needed to address these issues and improve the situation within the APC.
In response to Ganduje’s suspension by some APC ward chieftains, Lukman called for rebuilding the party and acknowledging internal challenges.
