Lai Mohammed Cries Out for Massive Investment in Nigeria’s ‘Goldmine’; Says it’s the Secret to Fixing the Economy!

Former Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is back in the spotlight with a clear message for Nigeria’s economic managers: the secret to a stronger Naira and a booming economy isn’t buried in oil wells, but in our tourist sites.

Speaking at a gathering of stakeholders in the creative and tourism industry, the former minister insisted that Nigeria is sitting on a “sleeping giant” that could solve many of the nation’s financial headaches. He argued that while other countries are making billions from travelers, Nigeria is still playing catch-up.

“Tourism is an invisible export,” Lai Mohammed stated. “You don’t need to ship anything out; people bring their money here to spend. But we must invest in making our country a destination they want to visit.”

He pointed out that for tourism to become a major breadwinner, the government must be serious about fixing the security situation and improving the roads and airports leading to our historic landmarks. He warned that without these basic investments, Nigeria’s rich culture and beautiful landscapes will remain “hidden treasures” that nobody can reach.

According to him, the tourism sector has the unique power to create jobs for everyone—from the street vendor to the five-star hotel manager. He urged the Federal Government to create more incentives for private investors to build world-class resorts and entertainment hubs across the country.
