Kebbi Governor Taps Commissioner to Explain Negligence in Health Sector
The Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has suspended the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yunusa Musa Ismail, for what the government described as “dereliction of duty.” The suspension, which takes immediate effect, is the latest in a series of actions by the administration to enforce accountability and discipline among its officials.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, the governor has ordered the commissioner to provide a detailed explanation for his alleged negligence and to show cause why further sanctions should not be taken against him. The governor has repeatedly stressed that public officers must justify the trust placed in them through dedicated service.
The suspension of the commissioner comes amidst growing public scrutiny and criticism of the state’s healthcare system. The governor’s action is seen as a direct response to a recent viral video that showed a deplorable condition at a general hospital in the state, with patients reportedly lying on bare metal beds without mattresses.
The governor’s office stated that the suspension will remain in effect pending a full review of the situation. This decisive move sends a clear message that the administration will not tolerate a lack of commitment to public service, especially in critical sectors like healthcare.
