Katsina Declares Friday Work-Free Day to Mark Islamic New Year 1447AH
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants and residents to commemorate the new Islamic Year 1447AH. The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari.
The declaration aims to enable civil servants and other residents to join Muslim faithful across the state and the country in celebrating the commencement of the new Islamic calendar and to reflect on its profound spiritual significance. The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijrah 1447, officially began on Thursday, June 26, 2025, following the sighting of the crescent moon.
In his message to the people, Governor Radda extended heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims on witnessing the new Islamic year. He called on the good people of Katsina State to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another, emphasizing that no meaningful development could take place without peace and stability.
Governor Radda also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering people-oriented projects that would significantly improve the lives of the populace. Furthermore, he reiterated his appeal to farmers and beneficiaries of government agricultural support programs to make judicious use of distributed fertilizers, tractors, and other farming implements to enhance food security during the ongoing rainy season. He urged farmers to desist from illegal encroachment on all cattle routes, forests, and grazing reserves, which are vital for peaceful coexistence.
The Governor concluded his message by offering prayers for continued peace, unity, and prosperity across Katsina State and Nigeria at large.
