Kano Gov Promises to Finally End Royal War as He Joins the APC Camp

Kano residents may finally see an end to the confusing “double emir” drama that has gripped the state for nearly two years. The Kano State Government has officially promised that the messy tug-of-war between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero is headed for a peaceful resolution.

Speaking to journalists this Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, assured the public that “concrete measures” are already being taken behind the scenes to restore order. “The emirship matter will not be allowed to distract governance any longer,” he stated, urging residents to stay calm as the government talks to everyone involved.

But there is a major political twist fueling the new rush for peace. Just three days ago, Governor Abba Yusuf abandoned his mentor Rabiu Kwankwaso and the NNPP party to join the ruling APC. This move has sent shockwaves through the palaces.

For many, this is a “full circle” moment. It was the APC that originally kicked Sanusi out and put Bayero on the throne years ago. Now that the Governor is in the same party as the people who support Bayero, Sanusi’s loyalists are reportedly worried that their king might be “sacrificed” for a political deal.

The situation in Kano has been described by some as having a “State Emir” (Sanusi) and a “Federal Emir” (Bayero). While Sanusi holds the keys to the main palace, Bayero has stayed put in the Nasarawa mini palace, refusing to back down and enjoying federal-level protection.

By promising an “amicable” end to the dispute, the Governor seems to be walking a tightrope trying to keep his new APC partners happy while avoiding a full-blown riot in the streets of Kano. Whether this “peace deal” means one emir will finally step down or a new arrangement will be made remains the biggest question in the North.

One thing is for sure: the 2026 political season in Kano is just getting started, and the crown is right in the center of it.
