“I Won’t Rest Until They Are Home!” Governor Uba Sani Pledges Rescue for 167 Abducted Worshippers in Heartbreaking Kaduna Visit
In a powerful show of support for a community in mourning, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has vowed that the state government will go to any length to ensure the safe return of over 160 worshippers snatched from their places of worship.
The Governor made this pledge during a high-stakes visit to the Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru Local Government Area. The village was thrown into chaos on Sunday, January 18, 2026, when armed bandits stormed three churches including the ECWA and two Cherubim and Seraphim branches dragging 177 people into the bush. While a few managed to escape the initial trek, 167 citizens are still being held in the forest.
“We are not talking about numbers or politics today; we are talking about the sanctity of human life,” Governor Sani told the gathered families. He emphasized that whether it was one person or a hundred, the government’s duty to protect its people remains the same. He revealed that for the past 48 hours, he has been in constant contact with the National Security Adviser and top military brass to coordinate a rescue operation.
To ensure such a tragedy never repeats itself, the Governor announced a major security and infrastructure overhaul for the region. He admitted that the current road leading to the community is in “unacceptable” condition, making it difficult for security forces to respond quickly. Consequently, he ordered the immediate reconstruction of the access road and the building of a modern hospital to serve the area.
Most importantly, Governor Sani disclosed plans to establish a permanent military base in the vicinity. By stationing troops directly in the community, the government aims to shut down the “criminal corridor” that connects local forests to known bandit hideouts.
While the community remains on edge, the Governor’s presence and his promise to foot the medical bills of those injured during the raid have offered a glimmer of hope. “You are not alone,” he reassured the residents. “We are working around the clock, and we will not rest until every single one of our people is back in their homes.”
