Hope on the Horizon: Nigeria’s Security Challenges to Become History, Says Information Minister

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, has delivered a message of hope to Nigerians, assuring the public that the government’s efforts will soon bring an end to the nation’s security challenges. Speaking at a sensitization campaign on the mid-term report of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in Gusau, Zamfara State, the Minister stated that the Federal Government has a firm target to “eliminate terrorism and terrorists very soon.”

Representing the Minister, the Head of the Federal Ministry of Information in Zamfara, Alhaji Auwal Balarabe, expressed the government’s heartfelt sympathy for the victims of insurgency and banditry in the North-West. He noted that the sensitization campaign was an opportunity to inform the public about the various developmental projects being executed under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including significant strides in security enhancement, infrastructure, agriculture, and social intervention.

Alhaji Balarabe highlighted several key achievements of the administration’s first two years, which he said were designed to mitigate the hardship faced by Nigerians. He disclosed that over 300,000 students have already benefited from the student loan scheme, NELFUND, while an impressive 900,000 people have received support from the presidential loan and grant scheme. He also mentioned that over 440 road construction projects are currently ongoing across the country and that the government has commenced the payment of a new ₦70,000 minimum wage.

During the event, which was attended by various stakeholders, a lecturer from the Federal University, Gusau, Abdul Rahman Adamu, also presented a detailed account of the major achievements of the Tinubu administration in the North-West zone. These included ongoing road constructions, improvements in transportation and power, and the establishment of the North-West Development Commission, which is expected to drive regional development.

The Minister’s representative urged the people of Zamfara State to take full advantage of these developmental projects to enjoy the dividends of democracy. The public engagement campaign serves as a crucial platform for the government to communicate its progress directly to citizens and build confidence in its ability to deliver on its promises.
