Governor Soludo Urges Corps Members to Embrace Patriotism, Not Merely ‘Pass Through’ Anambra
The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a strong appeal to the Batch “B” Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), urging them to view their service year as a sacred opportunity to demonstrate discipline, patriotism, and responsibility.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Mba, at the official swearing-in ceremony held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, the Governor described the corps as one of Nigeria’s most enduring post-civil war institutions, critical for fostering national integration and grassroots development.
“Do not merely pass through Anambra. Let Anambra pass through you,” Governor Soludo advised the new inductees. He encouraged them to fully immerse themselves in the state’s developmental process, leave a positive impact, and let their presence be felt “not only in the khaki uniform you wear, but in the integrity, kindness, and impact you leave behind.”
Soludo highlighted successful past projects by corps members such as the rebuilding of an abandoned facility in Ayamelum Local Government Area, which earned a State Honours Award—as models of the selfless service he expects. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the corps members’ welfare and their integration into key human capital development programmes, including the ‘Solution Innovation District’ and ‘Code Anambra Tech Bootcamps’.
Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Pauline Ojisua, noted that a total of corps members ( males and females) were successfully registered for the stream. While expressing deep appreciation for the Anambra State Government’s support, she made a plea for assistance in addressing the challenges of overstretched camp infrastructure and inadequate accommodation for camp officials.
The orientation course, she explained, is designed to be the foundational step of the service year, equipping the young patriots with values of leadership, discipline, and unity, which are essential for nation-building.
The Governor’s message underscores the need for the youth to see beyond their compulsory service and actively contribute to the country’s socio-economic fabric.
