Governor Mutfwang Defends Tinubu’s Airport Meeting After Jos Attack; Reveals Gunmen Disguised as NDLEA Officers to Fool Residents
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has “flipped the script” on critics questioning the logistics of President Bola Tinubu’s condolence visit to Plateau State. During a live interview the Governor insisted that the location of the President’s stakeholder engagement was secondary to the fact that the Commander-in-Chief abandoned his scheduled trip to Ogun State to stand in solidarity with the people of Jos.
The “Solution” to the recent wave of violence in the state capital requires more than just symbolic visits, according to Mutfwang. He explained that the President’s arrival at the Jos Airport to meet with victims’ families and community leaders demonstrated “genuine concern” and allowed for a high-level briefing on the “barbaric” acts of terrorism that claimed 28 lives. Addressing the grumbles about the meeting venue, Mutfwang was blunt: “The venue is not as important as the substance. The President came, met with the people, and demonstrated concern. That is what matters.”
The Governor also shed light on why the March 29 attack was so deadly. He revealed that the killers were “professionals” who exploited the psychology of the community. By wearing hoods and mimicking the shooting patterns of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the attackers “blindsided” both residents and security operatives. People initially thought it was a routine drug raid and did not resist, allowing the gunmen to flee before the community realized it was a massacre.
Despite the “temporary setback,” Mutfwang expressed “Renewed Hope” that the perpetrators would soon be fished out. He confirmed that the state government is now working with the military and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that the “Drill or Drop” approach to security is applied to bandit hideouts in the hills. As the state prepares for the mass burial of the victims, the Governor’s message is clear: the government is focused on justice, not just the “optics” of where a meeting is held.
