Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has taken a significant step ahead of his second-term inauguration by dissolving the state executive council and terminating the appointments of political office holders. The announcement was made through a memo dated May 23, 2023, signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Chairman of the Transition and Inauguration Committee, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi.
In the memo, Governor Makinde instructed all political office holders to hand over government properties in their possession to the most senior civil servant in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies. The directive excludes political office holders in statutory commissions.
The statement expressed the governor’s appreciation for the contributions made by the political office holders to the development of the state and extended well wishes for their future endeavors.
Governor Makinde’s decision to dissolve the state executive council and dismiss political office holders is seen as a common practice during transitions between terms of office. It allows for a fresh start and the formation of a new team that aligns with the governor’s vision and goals for the state.
As Governor Makinde prepares for his second term, the dissolution of the cabinet sets the stage for the appointment of new officials who will work alongside him to continue driving the development and progress of Oyo State.
