Governor Aiyedatiwa Alarms IGP Over Akingboye’s Death Probe, Demands Impartial Investigation

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has formally raised a serious alarm regarding the police investigation into the mysterious death of Mr. Bamidele Akingboye, the former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last state election.

The Governor, speaking through his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo (SAN), expressed “grave concerns” over the transparency and diligence of the ongoing probe into the passing of the prominent Ondo indigene.

Akingboye was found dead at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, in early September. His death, initially reported as natural, became the subject of a forensic investigation after disturbing images circulated on social media showed bruises on his head, fueling suspicions of homicide and allegations of domestic violence. Reports also indicate suspicious large financial withdrawals from his account shortly after his demise.

In a strong message, Governor Aiyedatiwa announced he has written to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, demanding a comprehensive, impartial, and uncompromised probe.

“Every Ondo citizen’s life is valuable. The circumstances surrounding Otunba Akingboye’s death must be thoroughly investigated, and justice must be upheld,” the Governor stated. “We owe it to our people to ensure that justice is not only done but is seen to be done. No influence, status, or circumstance should be allowed to obstruct the truth.”

The Governor’s intervention underscores the high political and communal sensitivity of the case and puts renewed pressure on the police authorities to ensure a credible outcome that reassures the public and provides clarity on the tragic passing of the business mogul and politician.
