FUEL PRICE WAR! Retailers Beat Dangote to the Punch as Pump Prices Drop Below ₦739; See the New Cheapest Places to Buy Petrol!

The “monopoly” is over before it even started! In a move that has shocked the energy market, local petrol retailers have started slashing their prices to levels even lower than the ₦739 per liter offered by the Dangote Refinery.

While many expected the Dangote plant to be the cheapest source of fuel, a “petrol war” has broken out. Independent stations in several parts of the country are now selling fuel for as low as ₦710 and ₦725, leaving many to wonder how they are doing it.

The secret? It’s all about the imports. As the global price for refined petrol dropped this week, smart marketers jumped on the opportunity to bring in cheaper shipments from abroad. Because these marketers are buying in bulk at lower international rates, they can afford to sell to you at a cheaper price than what the local refinery is charging at its gates.

“The market is finally free,” one station manager in Lagos said. “If Dangote is expensive, we buy from the ships. If the ships are expensive, we go to Dangote. At the end of the day, the customer wins.”

For drivers who have been struggling with high transport costs, this is the best news of the year. Filling stations that used to be quiet are now seeing long queues of cars looking to grab the “cheap” fuel before prices change again.
