Fubara Urges Corps Members to Leverage Service Year for Capacity Building, Self-Reliance

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday charged the outgoing 2025 Batch B, Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to diligently utilize their service year as a foundation for building capacity and achieving self-reliance.

The Governor’s call was delivered during the closing ceremony of the Batch B, Stream II orientation course at the Nonwa-Gbam permanent orientation camp in Tai Local Government Area. Governor Fubara, represented by the newly sworn-in Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Hon. Benibo Anabraba, stressed the necessity of entrepreneurship in the current national economy.

“The service year is a unique opportunity for national contribution and personal transformation,” Governor Fubara stated. “I urge you to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) post-camp training very seriously and equip yourselves with the capacity to compete favourably in the nation’s huge economic space, elevating yourselves as wealth creators and employers of labour.”

He further enjoined the Corps members to consider Rivers State as their home, assuring them of the state’s characteristic warmth, hospitality, and accommodating disposition throughout their primary assignment postings. “Be assured of the warmth, hospitality, and accommodating disposition of the good of our people at all times,” he added.

The Governor’s advice aligns with his administration’s focus on youth empowerment as a strategy to combat unemployment and drive economic development.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Moses Oleghe, appealed to the Corps members to dedicate themselves to selfless and empathetic service to their host communities, using the year to discover their true purpose and contribute meaningfully to nation-building efforts. The event marks the transition of the new batch of corps members into the various host communities across Rivers State.
