Final-Year KWASU Student Idris Agboluaje Dies in Fatal Crash While Rushing for Student ID Card

A shadow of grief has fallen over the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, following the tragic death of a final-year student, Idris Aremu Agboluaje, who lost his life in a ghastly auto crash while attempting to meet examination requirements.

Idris, a 400-level student in the Department of Business Education, was reportedly in high spirits on Wednesday morning as he prepared for his first-semester final-year papers. However, tragedy began to unfold when he was allegedly turned away from the examination hall by invigilators because he lacked his official student identity card.

According to heartbroken classmates and eyewitnesses, the young man desperate not to miss the critical assessment hurriedly jumped into his vehicle and sped toward the school gate to resolve the issue or retrieve the missing ID. In his rush to return before the exam ended, he lost control of the vehicle in the Malete area, resulting in a fatal collision that claimed his life instantly.

In a somber statement released on Thursday, February 5, the institution’s Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo Sallee, confirmed the incident and extended the university management’s condolences to the family. “The Management of KWASU feels very deeply pained by the loss of a promising young man and prays that God consoles his family and the entire university community,” the statement read.

The Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN) has described Idris’s passing as a “void that will be hard to fill,” while fellow students have raised concerns about the “rigid” enforcement of ID policies during stressful exam periods.
