FG on Tinubu: Federal Government Praises Tinubu’s Equitable Distribution of Projects and Appointments

The Federal Government has staunchly defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration against what it describes as “insinuations, half-truths, and fake information” regarding the distribution of projects and appointments. In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, asserted that the administration has consistently been guided by fairness, justice, and equity.

Idris argued that the perception of lopsided development is unfounded, citing a long list of ongoing projects across all six geopolitical zones. He pointed to major infrastructure initiatives such as the 750km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, which traverses the Southern states, and the 1,068km Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, which cuts across the Northern parts of the country. This, he noted, demonstrates a clear balance in the administration’s flagship projects.

Citing what he called “verifiable data,” the Minister revealed that the Northwest region has received the largest share of capital project approvals, amounting to over ₦5.97 trillion, which represents over 40% of the total. He further detailed a host of other projects in both the North and South, including the dualization of major roads in Kano, Kaduna, and Jigawa, as well as the rehabilitation of key bridges in Lagos and the construction of the Nembe-Brass road in the South-South.

Beyond infrastructure, Idris stated that the government’s commitment to fairness extends to federal appointments. He noted that the President has consistently appointed competent Nigerians from every part of the country, guided by merit and inclusivity. As further proof, he highlighted the establishment of five new Regional Development Commissions and the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, all of which are designed to address the diverse needs of the nation.

The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of continued criticism from opposition figures and some members of the ruling party, including Senator Ali Ndume, who have accused the administration of violating the federal character principle in its appointments. By providing specific examples and data, the Federal Government aims to counter these narratives and reassure Nigerians that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is one of unity and equitable development.
