FCTA Splashes Cash on 12 New State-of-the-Art Emergency Ambulances

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Executive Council has officially ratified a major contract, approving the expenditure of N1.74 billion for the immediate purchase of 12 brand new, state-of-the-art emergency ambulances. This significant investment is aimed at overhauling and boosting emergency response capabilities across the Federal Capital Territory.

The approval, which marks the first time the FCT is receiving a batch of new special ambulances in nine years, was announced on Friday, October 24, 2025, by the Mandate Secretary of Health, Human and Environment Services, Adedolapo Fasawe, following an Executive Council meeting.

The newly acquired fleet consists of 12 units of Toyota Hiace Hiroof, 2023/2024 models. Fasawe emphasized that the vehicles meet international standards and technical specifications, providing advanced features necessary for effective pre-hospital care.

“Today at the Executive Council Meeting, a contract has been ratified, and I am very pleased to say that for the first time in nine years, the FCT will get 12 brand new special ambulances,” Fasawe stated. She confirmed that the vehicles, purchased for the total sum of N1,741,500,000, have already been delivered and are ready for commissioning soon.

In addition to the physical assets, the Health Secretary noted that the FCTA is also focused on developing a comprehensive ambulance service model, which includes establishing dedicated stations, training first responders, and implementing the digitisation of emergency response units. This technological upgrade will enable hospitals to be accessed online, allowing responders to know in real-time which facility has available beds and which hospital is closest to the scene of an emergency.
