Court Summons Yahaya Bello Over Alleged ₦110bn Fraud

Ex-Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello

An Abuja High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has summoned former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, for arraignment on October 24. Bello, alongside Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, faces 16 new charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Previously declared wanted after an arrest warrant was issued by Justice Emeka Nwite on April 17, Bello had failed to appear in court to answer 19 charges related to money laundering and misappropriation of ₦80.2 billion.

Justice Maryanne Anenih, before whom the fresh charges were filed, ordered Bello to appear in court to face allegations of criminal breach of trust involving ₦110.4 billion. The EFCC, citing difficulty in serving the charge, was directed to publish public summons in a national newspaper and at Bello’s last known address. Bello’s absence on Thursday delayed his scheduled arraignment.
