Borno Police Arrest 210 Suspects, Seize Large Quantities of Drugs and Weapons in Major Crackdown

The Borno State Police Command has announced a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime, revealing the arrest of 210 suspects and the recovery of large quantities of hard drugs and various weapons. The arrests were made during intensive operations conducted across the state between June 11 and June 18.

The Commissioner of Police for Borno State, Naziru AbdulMajid, disclosed these achievements to journalists at the Command Headquarters in Maiduguri. He stated that the operations, spearheaded by the Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Social Vices Unit, involved a combination of raids, surveillance, stop-and-search actions, and coordinated enforcement. These efforts specifically targeted prevalent criminal activities such as handset snatching, youth gangsterism, thuggery, and widespread drug abuse.

Out of the 210 individuals apprehended, CP AbdulMajid confirmed that 86 suspects have already been convicted for various offenses, while the remaining 124 are currently under investigation.

The recovered items highlight the scale of illicit activities being tackled. Seizures include a substantial cache of hard drugs: 58 sachets of Tramadol, 175 pieces of Exzol tablets, 130 D5 tablets, 395 wraps and 1 kilogram of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 28 Ermo tablets, and 10 bottles of drug syrup. In addition to narcotics, law enforcement also recovered 19 shisha pots and pipes, nine knives, and two customised antelope horns, often used as dangerous weapons in street violence.

Commissioner AbdulMajid credited the success of the operation to the dedication and bravery of the officers involved, as well as the support from the Borno State Government, which he lauded for revitalising and equipping the RRS unit. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining the tempo of these operations to ensure a safer environment for all residents of Borno State.
