Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has once again reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to the PDP, declaring that he has no intention of leaving the party despite recent speculations suggesting otherwise.
Atiku made this clear during a strategic engagement with the Women’s Wing of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), who paid him a courtesy visit to discuss the future of the party, women’s inclusion in political leadership, and recent national developments.
“I remain firmly in the PDP,” Atiku said. “My commitment to the ideals of this party and its role in Nigeria’s democratic future is unwavering. The PDP remains the most experienced, organized, and nationally accepted political platform capable of delivering the kind of leadership our country urgently needs.”
The meeting, which held at Atiku’s Abuja residence, was attended by senior female stakeholders within the PDP BoT, led by their coordinator. The delegation commended the former Vice President for his continued leadership and called for greater unity within the party as it prepares for future electoral challenges.
During the closed-door session, discussions focused on party reconciliation efforts, the need for a clearly defined roadmap leading to 2027, and the importance of leveraging the party’s internal structures to support youth and women participation at all levels of leadership.
Responding to recent rumors suggesting a potential defection, Atiku dismissed such claims as unfounded and politically motivated distractions. He emphasized that now is the time for consolidation, not division.
“There may be challenges within the PDP, as is the case in any democratic organization,” he said, “but walking away is not the answer. Our responsibility is to rebuild, to unite, and to reenergize the party from the grassroots to the national level.”
Atiku also reiterated his belief in the power of women to drive political change, describing them as “the soul of the party” whose voices must be amplified as the PDP charts a new course.
The BoT women expressed their appreciation for Atiku’s openness and consistency, assuring him of their continued support and urging him to remain a central pillar in the PDP’s leadership. They also pledged to strengthen women’s engagement and mobilization efforts ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for reconciliation, internal democracy, and strategic planning to position the PDP as a credible and united alternative in the face of Nigeria’s current challenges.
