Atiku: Committed to Anti-APC Coalition but Staying in PDP

Atiku Reaffirms Commitment to Anti-APC Coalition, Dismisses PDP Defection Rumors

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reiterated his commitment to a multi-party coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. However, he firmly stated that he has no intention of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement titled “Atiku Remains a Bonafide Member of PDP”, released in Abuja on Saturday night, the former PDP presidential candidate dismissed speculations suggesting he was planning to exit the party.

Atiku’s media team refuted the rumors, stating: “We have observed that some news platforms are circulating unverified reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party. We wish to clarify that such claims are entirely baseless and illogical.”

The statement emphasized Atiku’s consistent advocacy for a united opposition, saying: “Atiku Abubakar has repeatedly called for a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections to remove the incompetent and hardship-inflicting APC government and offer Nigerians a new lease of life. He remains committed to building a strong alliance that includes all opposition parties, with the PDP playing a central role.”

Dismissing allegations of defection, the media team stressed: “The notion that Waziri Atiku is leaving the PDP contradicts the very essence of the grand coalition he is championing alongside other political leaders. Any claim to the contrary is a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians about the scale and purpose of the ongoing opposition alliance.”

The statement concluded with a firm reassurance: “Atiku remains a core and dedicated member of the PDP, the country’s leading opposition party. Any speculation suggesting otherwise is purely an attempt to sow confusion about the opposition’s collective effort to rescue Nigeria from the APC’s misrule.”
