Army and NDLEA Intercept 1,134 Blocks of Cannabis in Taraba, Arrest Two Fake Police Officers in Uniform
A collaborative operation between the Nigerian Army and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has resulted in the interception of a massive consignment of illicit drugs and the arrest of two individuals impersonating police officers in Taraba State.
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended the suspects at Takum Junction in the Wukari Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the arrested suspects were found fully dressed in Mobile Police uniforms. Their operation was halted when they were intercepted with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with a substance suspected to be cannabis.
Further investigation revealed the identities of the suspects as 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche. A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting the security personnel.
Preliminary findings indicate that the illicit cargo was loaded in Akure, Ondo State, and was being trafficked across the country with a final destination of Adamawa State before the successful interception.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their seamless collaboration and resilience. The suspects and the seized items have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution. The Brigade has reaffirmed its commitment to securing Taraba State from criminal elements and drug traffickers.
