Amaewhule-Led Assembly Gives Fubara 7 Days to Resubmit 2024 Budget

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resubmit the 2024 budget. This order comes after the first session of the pro-Wike House on Monday, following a hiatus of several months. Meanwhile, a parallel session is being held by another House led by Victor Oko-Jumbo.

Governor Fubara had initially presented the budget to a House loyal to him, with his current Chief of Staff Edison Ehie presiding as Speaker. Ehie and other pro-Fubara lawmakers passed the budget estimates, and the governor subsequently signed the bill into law, stating that it aims to promote economic development, inclusive growth, and address socio-economic inequality in the state.
