The Kaduna State House of Assembly insisted on Wednesday that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration must answer for the alleged misappropriation of N432 billion belonging to the state government.

El-Rufai is accused of diverting N423 billion in public funds and engaging in money laundering, allegations he has denied. According to a statement, Henry Magaji, Chairman of the Assembly’s Adhoc Committee, asserted that their thorough investigation revealed a significant heist allegedly perpetrated by the former administration.

Magaji stated that former political appointees resorted to name-calling and making wild allegations without addressing the issues raised in the probe report. He emphasized that the Kaduna State House of Assembly conducted a comprehensive investigation into the substantial debts incurred by the previous administration without corresponding projects, in line with its constitutional mandate and public demand.

“The attention of the Kaduna State House of Assembly has been drawn to a press conference by senior political appointees of the immediate past administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai. They made efforts to discredit the Probe Committee’s report, resorting to name-calling and wild allegations about the motivations behind the probe. We wish to state that their press conference was merely a rehash of previous attacks and did not address the core issue: the systematic and coordinated looting of Kaduna State’s resources through phony contracts and outright theft,” the statement read.
