Akpabio, Abbas, and Bamidele Rally Nigerians With Message of Hope, Promise 2026 Will Deliver Results of 2025 Reforms

The leadership of the National Assembly has ushered in the new year with a unified call for optimism, urging Nigerians to look beyond the current economic pressures and remain hopeful for a “transformational” 2026.

In separate official statements made available to the press, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele addressed the nation, acknowledging the sacrifices made by citizens over the past year.

Senate President Akpabio noted that while 2025 was a year of “structural realignment,” 2026 would be the year of “tangible dividends.” He maintained that the legislative foundation laid in the previous session was intentionally designed to attract foreign investment and stabilize the Naira. “The seeds of prosperity have been sown. We must remain steadfast and hopeful as we begin the harvest in 2026,” Akpabio stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas assured Nigerians that the House of Representatives remains the “People’s House.” He pledged that the legislative agenda for the new year would focus on accelerating the implementation of the student loan scheme and ensuring that the ₦100,000 wage awards and minimum wage adjustments are reflected in the lives of every Nigerian worker.

From the Senate wing, Leader Opeyemi Bamidele appealed for a “spirit of patriotism.” He emphasized that the “Renewed Hope” agenda is not just a slogan but a working document that requires collective patience. Bamidele highlighted the recent improvements in the security sector and the dip in inflation as evidence that the government’s policies are beginning to gain traction.

“We understand the pain and the expectations of our people. 2026 is the year we move from policy to prosperity. We ask you to keep the faith and work with us to build a more resilient Nigeria.” — Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Leader

The leaders concluded by promising that the National Assembly would maintain a harmonious yet firm relationship with the Executive to ensure that the 2026 Budget of Consolidation is utilized effectively to fix the nation’s infrastructure and energy sectors.
