Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other stakeholders planning to participate in the national hunger protests to avoid actions that could compromise the peace and security of the state.
Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, stated in Osogbo on Tuesday that Adeleke gave this advice during a meeting with CSO members and other groups in the state.
Represented by Deputy Governor Mr. Kola Adewusi at the meeting, which included heads of various security organizations in the state, Adeleke acknowledged the protesters’ constitutional right to demonstrate. However, he stressed the importance of preserving the peace and tranquillity of Osun.
The statement quoting the governor further read, “My administration’s commitment to making Osun a reference point for other states in Nigeria remains steadfast. I, therefore, implore you to be law-abiding before, during, and after the upcoming nationwide protests, as no act of violence of any kind will be tolerated by my administration in Osun State.”
“In Osun, we are known for being good and peaceful, and we should maintain that as our pride, always being ahead of others in all things good and developmental.”
Earlier, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Abba, and the Commander of the Engineering Construction Regiment in Ede, Brigadier General Abdul Kareem Aliyu, also urged the protesters to conduct themselves decorously while protesting in Osun State.
