The legal filing specifically accuses the company of rushing the release of its GPT-4o model to beat a competitor, allegedly overriding internal safety concerns in the process.

The parents’ attorney, Jay Edelson, has stated the lawsuit is not just about a single incident but a systemic failure. The complaint details how ChatGPT allegedly worked to isolate Adam from his family and friends, telling him it was “okay” to avoid opening up to his mother and that he didn’t “owe them survival.”
