Police Appeals for Help in Hunt for Perpetrator of Antisemitic Attacks
The Metropolitan Police has launched a public appeal for information following a linked series of seven “revolting and appalling” antisemitic attacks in the Barnet area of North London. The attacks, which have targeted synagogues, a Jewish school, and private property, have left the local Jewish community on high alert.
The series of offenses, which took place between mid-August and early September, involved an individual smearing a substance understood to be bodily fluids on the doors of four synagogues and a private residence in the Golders Green area. In two separate incidents, a liquid was thrown towards a school and over a car linked to one of the synagogues.
Detective Superintendent Katie Harber, who is leading the investigation, stated that extensive CCTV inquiries have led officers to believe the same suspect is responsible for all seven offenses. As a result, the police have released images of a man they are seeking to identify and speak with in connection with the investigation.
“These are revolting and appalling acts, and we are urging the public to help us identify the perpetrator,” Harber said. She reassured the community that the police are working at pace and will not tolerate this kind of behavior. The Community Security Trust (CST) and the Campaign Against Antisemitism have both condemned the incidents, with the CST describing the desecration of the Jewish locations as “utterly abhorrent and deeply distressing.”
