APC Chieftain Warns Against ‘Nauseating’ VP Slot Tussle, Urges Focus on Governance

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has issued a stern warning to politicians, urging them to cease the premature jostling for the 2027 Vice Presidential slot and other positions, stating that such actions could significantly distract President Bola Tinubu from the critical task of governance.

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), described the ongoing politicking for positions ahead of the 2027 general elections as “nauseating” and counterproductive to national progress.

“Some people are already jostling to be Vice President,” Oyintiloye lamented. “The President is facing serious tasks to keep the economy healthy, defeat the evil of insurgency, and fix critical infrastructures that are not being supported anymore.”

He stressed that the Tinubu administration is just two years into its tenure, with the next general election still over a year and a half away. According to Oyintiloye, the “noise-making of these political opportunists, hell-bent on causing distractions, is capable of slowing down progress.”

Oyintiloye underscored the immense challenges President Tinubu inherited upon assuming office in 2023, including a “troubled economy with a ballooning debt profile, a volatile naira, unsustainable fuel subsidy spending, and pervasive insecurity.” He commended the President’s efforts, noting that his technocratic background had already “rekindled a ray of hope that many Nigerians seemed to have given up on.”

The APC chieftain called for collective support, prayers, and solidarity for the President, urging politicians to prioritize national development over personal ambitions. “Distracting him with who gets what ahead of 2027 and even 2031 elections is absurd and uncalled for,” he added. He emphasized that what the President needs at this critical juncture is the collective will of all stakeholders to concentrate on delivering good governance and addressing the pressing national matters at hand.
