On Saturday, the Ogun State Government dismissed the allegation that Governor Dapo Abiodun called Nigerians sore losers over the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest as entirely false. The government clarified that the governor was referring to certain 2023 election losers who were exploiting the youth’s dissent to destabilize the country. The unrest observed during the protests across various regions validated the governor’s concerns, the statement added.

The government emphasized that the governor never suggested that ordinary Nigerians expressing their grievances about the country’s economic situation were sore losers. Governor Abiodun has consistently shown deep respect for Nigerian youths, students, and workers, often speaking of them in highly positive terms. This clarification was provided by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement to journalists in Abeokuta.

The statement also noted that just the day before, the governor praised Ogun residents, especially the youth, for their peaceful conduct and avoidance of violence, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their well-being.

Furthermore, the statement accused certain political opponents of President Bola Tinubu of distorting Governor Abiodun’s words and conducting malicious attacks against him and his office. It asserted that the claim that Governor Abiodun insulted ordinary Nigerians is baseless and misleading.

“Governor Abiodun’s comments about sore losers were aimed at opposition leaders who, instead of preparing for future elections, are focused on undermining government policies to stir unrest,” the statement concluded.
