President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the new Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), replacing Mustapha Ahmed who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021.
The Presidency highlighted that Umar’s appointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to gender inclusion, as stated in a press release by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
With over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Finance, and Administration, Umar is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration. She also holds ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
During her tenure as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Umar is credited with modernizing and digitizing the institution’s operations.
Ngelale expressed the President’s expectation that Umar will introduce financial and operational discipline to NEMA and transform it into a proactive emergency response provider, focusing on prevention and climate change readiness in line with its core mandate.
