Court to Decide on Terrorism Financing Case Against Tukur Mamu in January 2027
A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled January 27, 2027, for its judgment in the case against Tukur Mamu. Mamu is accused of being involved in financing terrorism related to the Abuja-Kaduna train attack in 2022.
The court’s decision came after both the Federal Government’s lawyer, David Kaswe, and Mamu’s lawyer, Johnson Usman, presented their final arguments. Mamu was arrested on September 7, 2022, at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian security officials.
Initially, Mamu faced ten charges related to terrorism financing. However, the prosecution later added more charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering.
During the proceedings, Usman argued that the prosecution had not provided the necessary license for a firearm allegedly found at Mamu’s home. He claimed that the license was valid at the time of Mamu’s arrest, despite the prosecution’s assertion that it was expired.
In response, the prosecution maintained that the license and firearm had already been submitted to the court. The judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, listened to both sides before setting the judgment date.
Usman also expressed gratitude to the Department of State Services for allowing Mamu’s family to visit him, as ordered by the court.
