Igbo Leaders Announce Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, announced that the Igbo people of the South-East have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for re-election in 2027. This statement was made during the launch of the APC Women’s Mobilisation Campaign and South-East Women Empowerment Programme in Enugu.

Kalu emphasized that Tinubu has shown a strong commitment to the Igbo community. He pointed out that during Tinubu’s time as governor of Lagos State, he appointed Igbo individuals to key positions and ensured their safety and business interests. Kalu stated, “This man has not hidden his love for Ndi Igbo,” referring to Tinubu’s past actions.

The Deputy Speaker also criticized previous administrations for failing to fulfill promises made to the South-East after the civil war. He highlighted the recent signing of the South-East Development Commission Bill as a significant achievement under Tinubu’s leadership, noting that it had been stalled for years.

Kalu called on the people of the South-East to vote for Tinubu and Shettima on January 16, 2027, insisting that there are no alternative candidates. He urged unity among the governors and citizens of the region, stating, “The Igbo are complete. The governors are complete.”

He further argued that the South-East should not settle for a four-year presidential term when other regions have had eight years. Kalu expressed that fairness dictates that the South-East should also have the opportunity for an extended term when it is their turn.
