Rochas Okorocha Celebrates Court Ruling on Imo West Senatorial Candidacy

Rochas Okorocha, the former Governor of Imo State, is celebrating a recent court decision that he believes supports his claim to be the official candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Imo West Senate race.

The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Okorocha is the rightful candidate for the 2027 general election. This ruling came after Okorocha challenged the APC’s earlier decision that named current Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the candidate.

Okorocha’s lawsuit questioned whether it was legal for Uzodimma to run for the Senate while still serving as governor, a position he will hold until January 2028. The court found that Uzodimma did not win the party’s primary election held on May 18, 2026, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize Okorocha as the candidate.

In a statement, Okorocha described the court’s ruling as a significant win for the judiciary, democracy, and the Nigerian Constitution. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting a fair judicial process and praised the APC for allowing members to pursue their rights.

Okorocha expressed his gratitude to the people of Imo State, especially those in the Imo West Senatorial District, for their support and prayers during this process. He also acknowledged Uzodimma’s role in the case, calling it part of a historic decision.

Okorocha emphasized that this ruling is not just a personal victory but a triumph for all who value justice and democracy in Nigeria.
