Bauchi Residents Weigh In on Imam’s Alleged Removal Linked to Political Support
Residents of Madina Quarters in Bauchi have reacted to claims made by Dahiru Abubakar, also known as ‘Jejiwe Danmalam.’ He alleged that he was removed from his position as an imam at a local mosque for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign. However, many locals disagree with his account.
Some residents stated that Abubakar was not the main imam of the mosque but occasionally led prayers when the regular imam was unavailable. Ibrahim Muhammad, a local resident, described Abubakar as a comedian and a controversial figure who has shifted his political support over the years. Muhammad noted that Abubakar had previously criticized Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but later changed his stance.
Another resident, Adamu Garba, also disputed Abubakar’s claim, stating that he did not serve as the mosque’s imam. Garba mentioned that the community had heard various reports regarding the situation but maintained that Abubakar was not the primary religious leader.
In response to the allegations, Abubakar insisted that he was indeed removed from his role at the mosque due to his political support for Tinubu. He explained that his backing of the President, particularly regarding security issues, led to disagreements within the community. Abubakar also mentioned a proposal he made to rename the mosque after Tinubu, which was not well received.
Despite the controversy, Abubakar expressed his genuine support for Tinubu and stated that he remains committed to backing him in the upcoming 2027 elections. He urged caution among journalists and the public when sharing information, especially during this politically charged time.
