Nigeria’s Police Chief Emphasizes Intelligence and Human Rights in Policing

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu recently emphasized that effective policing in Nigeria must go beyond just using force. He made these remarks during the launch of a book titled Beyond the Bullets: Policing Terrorism in a Democratic System in Abuja.

Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to intelligence-led operations and respecting human rights. He believes that building public trust is essential for successfully fighting terrorism and other crimes in a democratic society.

At the event, Disu encouraged both police officers and the public to read the new book, which was authored by former Inspector-General Mohammed Abubakar. He described the book as a valuable resource that highlights the need for police reforms and professionalism.

The police chief praised Abubakar for his leadership during tough times of insurgency and terrorism. He noted that effective policing can be achieved without violating constitutional principles.

Disu also mentioned that the lessons from the book could help current and future police leaders meet the challenges of law enforcement while upholding democratic values. He congratulated Abubakar on the publication and wished him continued health and contributions to national development.
